Nylon Sheet is a superb wear and abrasion resistant material and well suited to machining. It has high mechanical strength and good sliding properties. Nylon Sheet is also stiff, has good creep stability and is resistant to many oils and chemicals. Nylon sheet does have a few slight advantages, the first being that it can operate at a very slightly higher temperature and the second advantage of Nylon Sheet is also that it is slightly harder as an engineering plastic. Nylon sheet can be used for pretty much most applications and the natural grade is acceptable with food environments. Typically Nylon Sheet will be used as wear strips or blocks and is very abrasion resistant. Nylon sheet can be machined very easily and provides a smooth surface finish for product contact such as on conveyor systems.
Nylon Rod is normally specified for bearings etc as the wear and abrasion resistance is very good, it is also used for pulleys and bushes, this is because it can withstand high pressure due to its very high strength, in fact it can withstand up to one tonne per square inch. Nylon Rod is also very good for rollers and spacers. Nylon Rod is very good for applications where minimal maintenance is required or in environments where maintenance access is difficult. Nylon Rod is an excellent engineering plastic for shock resistance and absorption, this helps in specific environments where other materials pass on heavy repeated shock loadings that over time can damage other important and valuable components, Nylon Rod has very good electrical insulation properties that can prove very valuable in reducing risk or adding the advantage of having built in electrical insulation within a piece of plant. Another advantage of Nylon Rod is its resistance to corrosion, many traditional materials have the tendency for the bearing surface to corrode and break down with increased friction and an accelerated demise of important bearings.
